
On April 29th several people gathered at Sorauren Park to continue the spring clean-up. Thanks to all, including those from the Sorauren Park Association, for supporting our initiative to keep the park clean, healthy and safe for everyone to enjoy.
Braving rain and cold, a few of us made it to the park clean-up on Earth Day. Thanks go to Craig for brewing the coffee, lending a rake, and manning the wheelbarrow, all of which made our soggy job a little easier!
Everyone is invited to attend the upcoming meeting with Sandy Straw, Parks & Recreation Manager, to discuss our proposal and Councillor Sylvia Watson's commitment to finding an interim solution for off-leash privileges at Sorauren Park.
The meeting is to be held Wednesday March 29th at 7:30 p.m. at the Parkdale Community Recreation Centre located at 75 Lansdowne Avenue.
The Parkdale Liberty has published an interview with Councillor Watson. In it she makes reference to area residents' off-leash proposal as "something we'll be dealing with" this winter.
K9 Committee representatives presented our off-leash proposal to Councillor Watson at a Nov 8th meeting held at the constituency office. Councillor Watson has forwarded a copy of the document to city officials, and promises to hold a public meeting on the issue before the new year. The City is also reviewing a city-wide off-leash policy, and is expected to report in January 2006.
The Ontario Attorney General has published information regarding the Public Safety Related to Dogs Statute Law Amendment Act (Bill 132). This bill impacts all dog owners. In particular please note the section called Dog Owners' Liability Act (DOLA) and New Powers for Animal Control Personnel.

The Sorauren Park Association has drafted a letter in support of our proposal for off-leash use of Sorauren Park. Working cooperatively with the community is key to the success of off-leash use, and we are very pleased to have the Association's support.

Guest speaker Patrick Williams from Toronto Dog Owners Group spoke about his experiences relating to off-lash advocacy. His orangization provides a network for dog owners in the Toronto area to share experiences and trade information, and to advocate on behalf of dog owners with regard to dog related issues.
The Sorauren Park K9 Committee is proud to be a sponsor of the Kid's Activities at The Sorauren Park Festival July 16, 2005.
A display will be set up and an informational pamphlet distributed to raise community awareness and gather input towards an off-leash solution for the park.
Representatives of the Sorauren Park K9 Committee met with Councillor Sylvia Watson today to present a petition signed by over 60 residents in support of off-leash use of Sorauren Park.
